Out With the Old to Make Room for the New
Flowers are blooming, birds are chirping, and the sun is shining. Even amidst all of the bad happening right now, there is still some light in the world. So, what better time than now for a little revamp? That’s right, it's spring cleaning time. With extra time on our hands, there’s more opportunity than ever to reorganize your closet, sell your old pieces, or give back to someone in need. While it sounds intimidating, think about all of the space you’ll have to fill with this year’s new pieces!
Even if the majority of your closet is filled with high-end luxury goods, you can still participate in a little spring cleaning. We know how hard it can be to give up some of your most unique pieces, but it doesn’t have to be as difficult as you think. If you have pieces sitting in a dark corner of your closet, receiving no love at all, give them a chance for a new life! While many consignment stores are closed, for the time being, online consignment hasn’t skipped a beat. By selling your items through an online consignment retailer, you are sure to receive a fair price for your items and see-through that they have a chance to live a second life outside of your dark closet corner. If you have a Poshmark account, you can start there, but don’t be afraid to try a new trusted site like The Real Real, Rebag, or Tradesy!
Give to Family Member or Friend
When making room for new pieces, you don’t always have to go out of your way to sell your items. If you see something in your closet that you don’t wear anymore, try gifting it to someone that you could see wearing it! By giving your old items to a family member or friend, you can continue to see the piece be brought back to life day in and day out. Not to mention, you might just be referred to as the “cool aunt” or “favorite daughter” from now on!
Donate to Charity
If you see some everyday items during your spring cleaning that could also use a little bit of TLC, don’t forget about donating to local charities. While some of the larger donation sites are closed, for the time being, many smaller and local organizations are still looking for items. If you’re only cleaning out your own closet, try searching women’s shelters in your area to donate to. However, if you are cleaning out your child’s closet as well, spend some time searching for a children’s home to give to. Your child might not notice their old toys anymore, but I’m sure they would make a big difference to another.
However you decide to clean out your old items, just know that you’re making a difference in someone’s day. Spring cleaning may sound daunting at first, but there are so many benefits that come from it. Not only do you get to spread a little sunshine for someone else, but you also make a little extra room for yourself.
